Candidates for the Board of Directors

At the AGM, we will be voting in SAAA’s Board of Directors for the 2024-25 year. The Board includes executive members (President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer) and three Directors-at-Large. The candidate profiles will be posted below within 1 week of the AGM.

To run for a position, contact the Elections Officer, Rowan: mxrowanwiebe@gmail.com. The minimum information required is your name and which position(s) you’re running for; if desired, it’s permitted to run for one Executive position and one Director position, although you may only be elected once. We also recommend including a photo and statement of interest (max 100 words). If elected, please note that you will be asked to stay on the Zoom following the AGM for a handover meeting.

Sasha Bauer (she/they)

Running for: President or Director-at-Large

Being President requires a commitment and energy that I'm prepared to give. Over my past year as Director, I was active in multiple projects e.g. joining Rowan advocating with the Calgary Police and Edmonton Science Centre, hosting educational talks both for SAAA and external groups, growing our social media accounts, and leading our first Community Zine. I've felt lucky to meet so many a-specs & allies and have a strong idea of our needs in the changing social landscape. If not elected, I humbly ask to be considered for Director again so that I can keep supporting SAAA's growth.

Bailey Gorman (she/they)

Running for: Director-at-Large

I am BFA graduate with a major in fibre art and currently a museum manager, with a wide variety of interests. I have had the pleasure of serving on the SAAA board since the beginning, when we were a Calgary group with ambitions to become something more. We've steadily been achieving our goals and if elected again I would like to continue the work I've been doing to collect data on Albertan and Canadian a-specs as well. This will allow us to identify how we can better serve our community and what advocacy gaps we can fill.

Evan Kayne (he/him)

Running for: Director-at-Large

As a First Nations Two Spirit and cis-gendered demisexual individual, I have often found myself navigating a world that tells me I am not enough. Yet, it is through these experiences that I have gained invaluable insights and developed a deep commitment to creating spaces where everyone feels free to embrace their authentic selves. I understand firsthand the challenges faced by those who do not fit neatly into societal norms, and I am passionate about ensuring that individuals from all walks of life know that they are indeed enough, just as they are. As a candidate for the board of this organization, I pledge to advocate tirelessly for inclusivity and acceptance, drawing on my unique perspective to foster a sense of belonging for all.

Beyond that, I’ve experience as a writer, I’ve worked in Oil and Gas, the Cannabis industry and am now working in Calgary’s growing tech sector.

Jeanne Wood (She/her)

Running for: Director-at-Large

I came out as aroace in the last few years and it's been life-changing for my sense of self.  I'm passionate about  contributing to the SAAA goals of advocacy, education, visibility and community in whatever ways I can.

I have skills and experience to bring to the SAAA board. I've served on several boards over the years, including eight years on the board of my condo association, during which time we oversaw a $2.3 million renovation project on our building. I currently work as a technical writer and I have writing, editing and teaching experience.

I'm a drag fan, proud cat parent and I'm currently exploring a-spec experiences in an autobiographical essay and a novel.  I've practiced mindfulness meditation for over six years and I love going for runs in the Edmonton river valley.
